VTV.vn - A press conference was held in Hanoi on Tuesday to announce the event.

The biennial 6th Dalat Flower Festival will take place from December 29th until January 2nd in Dalat City and neighbouring districts in Lam Dong Province.

The Dalat flower festival has become a key tourism event for the area. The biennial festival has helped Dalat attract an increasing number of both domestic and international tourists.

"The number of visitors coming to Dalat city has increased nearly 5-times compared to the first event. Over the past few years, the city has welcomed over 5 million visitors each year. Earnings from flower cultivation have greatly contributed to the city’s economic development", said Vo Ngoc Hiep, Chairman, Dalat People's Committee Head, Organising Board, Dalat Flower Festival.

According to the organisers, this year’s event will see two major changes. Da Lat city authorities will now be the main organiser of the festival in order to encourage the city’s people and businesses to participate more in the event. The 2015 event will see more flower displays not only within the centre of Dalat but also in residential areas, popular tourist sites, and floral businesses’ working places. The festival expects to attract an ambitious 500 thousand visitors during the occasion.

"In the previous festivals, accommodation services catering to tourists did not meet demand. This year, we’ll comprehensively improve the quality, in order to provide tourists with professional tourism services", said Nguyen Viet Van, Lam Dong Provincial Dept. of Information & Communication.

The festival is also intended to contribute to the development of the flower industry in the region. Dalat only exports 11% of its flowers, which is modest in compared with the province’s potential.
