To date, the country has sent more than 250,000 apprentices to Japan.
In 2018 alone nearly 70,000 Vietnamese apprentices were dispatched, accounting for more than 50 per cent of Japan’s total number of trainees.
In total, Vietnam is the leading nation among the 15 countries that has sent apprentices to Japan.
Deputy Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs Le Tan Dung noted that the country sends thousands of technicians to Japan annually under the category of technical laborers.
According to statistics, over 30,000 domestic technical workers are currently employed in Japanese factories.
With an aging and increasingly shrinking population, foreign interns and specific skilled workers from other countries, including Vietnam have become an important source of workers to fill in labour shortages that face most of the East Asian nation’s industries.
