Speaking at the opening ceremony, National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung stressed that the 11th meeting offered a chance to look back on the past five years, assess the country’s socio-economic, defence, security, diplomatic and judicial affairs, and put discuss the agenda for the remainder of 2016 and in the following years.
"In the last meeting of 13th National Assembly, we have a big task and huge responsibility. Therefore, I have the honour of asking the government, the NA Council for Ethnic Affairs, and NA committees and agencies to spend time and efforts in preparing thorough reports to submit to the National Assembly, to intensify co-ordination to ensure the scheduled agenda is completed. I also request that NA deputies contribute quality ideas to make the meeting a success. The National Assembly will consider adopting several laws and discuss ratification of a visa agreement between Vietnam and the US. The legislature will consider and make decisions on important issues, and review the performance of state, NA and government agencies over the past five years, along with legislative issues. New government leaders are also scheduled to be elected during the session.
