VTV.vn - The amended Penal Code has gone some way in further ensuring human rights in Vietnam, according to Vietnamese and international experts at the 11th Legal partner Forum on Tuesday in Hanoi.

The event was organised by the Ministry of Justice and UN Development Programme in Vietnam. The amended Penal Code was passed on Nov 27th and it removes death penalty for 7 crimes.

According to participants, it is a step forwards the implementation of human rights provisions outlined in 2013 Constitution as well as some UN recommendations for Vietnam on reducing death sentences. The Universal Periodic Review is a mechanism of the UN Human Rights Council to improve the human rights of UN member states.
