Speaking at the ceremony, State President Tran Dai Quang emphasised that over the past 90 years, the Vietnam revolutionary press has relentlessly developed, significantly contributing to the struggle for the national independence and development. The state president said the press had better conveyed the voice of the party, state, and political and social organisations.
The media had also provided a forum for the public to discuss the economy, culture and foreign affairs. State President Quang extended his best wishes to the winning journalists and stressed the need to modernise Vietnam’s media, especially during a period of increased international integration.
State President Tran Dai Quang said: Every journalist need to improve their vocational abilities, their professional ethics as well as the political understanding. Journalists should actively detect and fight against corruption, reflect the dark side of the market; thereby showing their consistency on the front of the national ideological and culture.
State President Tran Dai Quang said: Vietnam's press needs to improve its work, modernise its organisation and operational models as well as improve infrastructure, techniques and technologies. Press agencies should thoroughly grasp and communicate the Resolution of the 12th National Party Congress, the party’s guidelines and state’s policies and laws, as well as enhance the communication and encouragement of exemplary models and good people with good deeds in all fields, contributing to promoting the patriotic emulation movements.
State President Tran Dai Quang also asked the media to improve the quality of international communication activities, policies of ethnic unity, religious policies, and policies towards overseas Vietnamese. Additionally, the state president suggested that Vietnam Journalists’ Association gather members to learn and follow Ho Chi Minh’s ideology. State President Quang also noted that each journalist needs to improve political awareness, social responsibility and ethics. Every piece of media needs to be practical and of value to the public, following President Ho Chi Minh’s teaching: “Each journalist is a fighter; pen and paper are their weapons.”
Also at the ceremony, 92 press works in print and online newspapers, radio and television were awarded. Eight A prizes, 25 B prizes, 40 C prizes and 14 consolation prizes were awards. VTV’s VTV24 won an A prize on a report on the transformation of multi-level marketing in Vietnam. Two pieces by VTV6 and a documentary and report by VTV won B and C prizes.
