The conferment of these titles is meant to recognise the hard work and contributions of artists to Vietnamese culture and art.
La Thi Cam Van and Nguyen Anh Dung are the two former artists who were given the title “People’s artist”, while Hoai Linh is the first overseas Vietnamese artist to win the title of “Meritorious Artist”.
To date, some 368 artists have been honoured with a People’s Artist title, and 1,979 with a Meritorious Artist title.
