Orfarm, Bac Tom, Ecomart and Nong san Ngon are just some stores that sell organic products in Hanoi. However, each store has its own quality certificate and price.
"We don’t use pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers. We do everything manually, for example, we weed by hand. The vegetables develop rather slow and are ready after 35 to 40 days. We have to strictly follow the international standards if we want the companies to buy our products", Do Thi Nhan, Deputy team leader of Bai Thuong Organic Producers Group in Thanh Xuan, Soc Son Dist., Hanoi, said.
"At the moment, we have already issued a standard on producing, preliminary processing and marketing organic products. However, there is no standard to identify organic products sold on the market", Nguyen Nhu Cuong, Department of Crop Production, Ministry of Agriculture & Rural Development, said.
Organic and clean vegetables have a huge potential market in Vietnam. However, the lack of a legal framework on this issue makes it sadly difficult for both farmers and customers to get best value and peace of mind when buying organic products.
