People in Hoi An city, Quang Nam central province has had a chance to admire the beauty of Asian silk in the “Vietnam – Asia Silk Festival 2016”. With the theme “Bringing traditional silk to modern life”, the festival was held earlier this week in Hội An town, attracting the participation from many countries including India, Japan, China.
This is the first time Hoi An city has organised the festival to boost the traditional cultural values of Vietnamese silk in harmony with the development of Asian silk. At the festival, traditional silk weaving techniques from Vietnamese craft villages have impressed many visitors. Besides, Chinese and Indian artisans also showcase their high-class silk products such as cheongsams with modern designs and Kashmir silk carpet.
"At first, India only had silk scarves. Now we can make many other silk products that are fashionable and suitable with modern life. This is a journey of our silk culture", Quenser Dewani, Indian silk artisan, said.
Artisans, fashion designers and silk businesses from Viet Nam, Thailand, India, Japan and China both exchange silk making experiences at the festival.
The festival has honored cultural values of the silk profession and encourage silk artisans and producers to preserve traditional values of this industry.
