Mekong Delta to build pumping stations to cope with climate change

by VTV10 December 2015 Last updated at 09:00 AM

VTV.vn - In recent years, farmers in the Mekong Delta faced a shortage of irrigation facilities as the number of pumping stations met only half of local demand.

To address the problem, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has proposed a project to build new pumping stations in the region for the 2016-2020 period. Recently, the Prime Minister approved the project, allowing locals in the delta to build and replace 3,271 / more than 3,000 pumping stations over the next 5 years. A similar project was previously carried out in the region, but only 47% of the goal was achieved. Without enough pumping stations, agricultural production is greatly affected, especially as climate change becomes more severe./.
