In response to the ongoing drought and saltwater intrusion which has hit parts of Vietnam since the end of last year, the European Union is providing 90,000 euro in humanitarian funding to assist the most affected populations.
This EU-funding is part of the EUR 178,000 package allocated from the Disaster Relief Emergency Fund to support the Vietnam Red Cross Society in delivering much-needed assistance, including the provision of safe drinking water, the promotion of good hygiene and health care practices, and unconditional cash transfers for the poorest households to meet food and other priority needs.
The humanitarian aid will directly benefit 17,600 most vulnerable individuals who have been impacted by the climatic events in the seven hardest-hit provinces of Ben Tre, Binh Thuan, Gia Lai, Long An, Soc Trang, Tien Giang and Tra Vinh.
