This was confirmed by Mr. Shang-Jin Wei, Chief Economist of the Asian Development Bank during a press conference held yesterday (Oct 21) in Hanoi.
A recent report by the ADB showed that Vietnamese students from 14 to 15 years old have a better general knowledge of math and science than those in many countries like the US, Thailand, and the Philippines.
However, skills related to critical thinking and creativity should be furthered to enhance education quality, creating a highly skilled workforce to meet the current demand in Asia.
The report also showed that in 2011 Vietnam had about 15.6 million people of working age. With better investment in education, Vietnam will soon achieve better growth rates, especially in the context of global integration.
