36th AIPA General Assembly opens in Kuala Lumpur

The event was attended by delegations of AIPA member countries and observers from the EU and 11 other countries. The Vietnamese delegation was led by National Assembly Vice Chairman Huỳnh Ngọc Sơn. 

At the opening ceremony, AIPA-36 President and Speaker of the Malaysian Parliament’s lower house Amin Haji Mulia said that a summit between ASEAN and AIPA leaders would increase the role of AIPA regional affairs. He believed that parliamentarians could make more efforts to strengthen the links between countries.

The opening ceremony was followed by the first plenary session, where the Vietnamese delegation called for more supervision by AIPA members in the implementation of ASEAN's post-2015 vision. He also expected the issuance of more legal documents to implement AIPA resolutions.

The opening ceremony of the AIPA-36, scheduled to last through September 12, was followed by the first plenary meeting.
