After a year of conflict in eastern Ukraine, there are still nearly 30 Vietnamese households of 120 people living and working in Donetsk. Every day, they face danfers from the fighting while struggling to earn a living.
Armed conflict ravaged the heart of Donetsk, and several houses including those belonging to overseas Vietnamese were left severely damaged.
After the fighting, some overseas Vietnamese moved to another region or returned to their homeland, but others stayed on. They waited for good news from the Minsk agreements, hoping for an end to the war. However, the fighting continues to simmer.
Another concern among the Vietnamese community comes from the strict requirements for documentation, which prevent them from travelling through different regions in the Ukraine and even to Russia when needed.
Gunfire still echoes around the city, but Overseas Vietnamese living in Eastern Ukraine are standing together and hoping for a brighter future.
