VTV.vn - Vietnam is one of Lao’s biggest foreign direct investors. Sekaman 1 hydroelectric project is contributing to the socio-economic development and lives of local residents.

Washing clothes at home, bathing the children any time with clean water. This could only be done after Ning’s family moved to the resettlement area in Souksavang - Dakbou. Besides Ning’s family, 58 other households were affected by the construction of the Sekaman 1 hydroelectric project. After nearly a year, residents are now living comfortably.

The Suc-sa-vang - Dak-bu resettlement area is nearly 700 hectares, with total investment capital of nearly 3 million USD. To help residents settle in comfortably, investors built houses, schools, health centres, roads, and power lines for each household. Additionally, the company is providing rice to 400 residents each month until the complete handover of the resettlement area in June 2016.

"For long-term development, we plan to restore their previous jobs. In the first phase, 30 kg of rice per person will be provided for two years, and we will build two agricultural areas to support agricultural production for residents", Nguyen Xuan Hien, Director of Sekaman 1 Electric Co., Song Da Corporation, said.

In addition to the Souksavang - Dakbou resettlement area, Sekaman 1 Electric Company is building a 2nd resettlement area called Huay Doum to support and stabilize the lives of those affected by the construction of the hydropower plant.
