Vietnamese organic rice has been exported to strict markets such as the UK, Russia, and Singapore with a value of up to 4,000 USD per ton. Many companies apply the model of avoiding inorganic fertilizers and toxic chemicals, while adhering to international food safety standards.
Dr. Vo Tong Xuan,
rice expert, said: "This is the model we should apply in Vietnam because it’s one of international standards, and we want to export our products to the world. Green agriculture requires green fields to farm".
Vien Phu rice production company is currently applying such a model. With more than 220 hectares of land, the company exports 1,000 tons or organicrice per year. Though one challenge the company still faces is a lack of funds.
Vo Minh Khai, CEO of Vien Phu JSC, said: "We have the model; we have the market. But we have difficulties accessing funds from the government".
The organic rice production model has increased Vietnamese organic riceexport, and enhanced Vietnam’s competitiveness. It also helps protect the ecosystem through sustainable agriculture. However, this fairly new model still needs much support from government funds in order to develop.
