Nobel Prize winner to speak at VNU

VTV.vn - Nobel Prize winner George F Smoot will visit the Vietnam National University (VNU) campus in Ho Chi Minh City on August 20 to deliver a lecture and meet with students, faculty and guests.

Smoot, who won the 2006 Nobel Prize in physics for his big-bang study, will speak at 2 pm on August 20 and present an overview of how he envisioned the beginning of the universe and how it has evolved in the hundreds of thousands of years since.

Currently he is Professor of physics at the University of California in the US and a senior scientist at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, University of Paris Diderot (France).

In addition to winning the Nobel Prize in 2006, Professor Smoot was awarded the Einstein medal in 2003 and the Oersted Medal in 2009.

Free shuttle buses and tours of the VNU campus will be provided to those who desire to attend. Registrations can be made at http://osa.hcmiu.edu.vn/ on or before August 9, 2015.
