The centre, built with an initial investment of some VND 30 billion, will focus on rice hybrid seed research and the development of rice integrated solutions for growers across Vietnam.
The centre is the first foreign-funded research institution focused on rice in the country. It will drive R&D in the areas of yield, crop quality, pest tolerance and climate adaptability.
A second phase of investment, expected to be started in 2017, will include the addition of modern laboratories for artificial insect resistance evaluation, and biochemical evaluation of grain quality.
