89-year old veteran Nguyễn Tửu in Hue City still remembers the time he was on the front lines of the Điện Biên Phủ Campaign. He gave his treasured medal and hat to a local museum.
Nguyen Tuu, Former Front Auxiliary of Dien Bien Phu Campaign said : "When youngsters see this, they will realise that this is the hat soldiers used in the war. And they will love the country more”.
As these items were with veterans during the hardships of war, they hope to contribute to the nation's historical treasures by donating them to museums.
The Ho Chi Minh Museum and the Museum of History and Revolution in Thừa Thiên Huế province have received 35 thousand items from veterans.
Cao Huy Hung, director of Museum of History and Revolution of Thua Thien-Hue Province said :"Each piece of memorabilia holds a true story of a veteran. They are precious artifacts that bring back memories of a heroic time".
Each relic represents the pride and spirit of the veterans during a time of war. Preserving and displaying them in museums helps the younger generations understand more about the war, and increases their love for the country.
