VTV.vn - Project of Waterway for Heavy - Tonnages Ships to Enter the Hau River has contributed to remove bottlenecks in the navigation transport system for the Mekong Delta region.

Improved access for heavy tonnage vessels on the Mekong Delta’s Hau River has meant efficiency gains for businesses in the region.

The Duyen Hai Thermal Power Plant was constructed two years after the launch of a project to improve waterway access Trà Vinh. As 15,000-tonne ships can now deliver the coal to the plant, there aren’t any supply issues, avoiding losses of up to 50% of revenue. With improved supply the operators are considering expanding the plant.

The Mekong Delta province of Soc Trang has benefited from the improved waterway access, netting several billion dollar projects.

"Since the project on the Hậu River started, EVN has initiated the construction of their Long Phú thermal power plants. Foreign investors have also invested in some projects in the industrial zones", Nguyen Van The, Secretary in Soc Trang Party Committee, said.

Soc Trang is now focusing on planning the industrial zones to attract more investors coming to the locality. Improved access for heavier-tonnage ships on the Hậu River will play an important part in attracting investment to the Mekong Delta and help improve economic prospects in the 13 provinces in the region.
