VTV.vn - Vietnam currently has about 26 million female workers, accounting for 48% of the workforce.

The number of women employed in the economy has increased significantly thanks to support from the government and international organisations. In the context of global integration, Vietnamese women will have an access to more job opportunities.

A national scheme to support women with vocational training and employment during the 2010 to 2015 period has been a success. During the 5 years, 2.3 million women were provided with vocational training courses and 80% of them were able to secure a job after the course. Women are participating in over 1,400 income-generating projects.

Global integration will bring more development opportunities for Vietnam in terms of foreign investment and job opportunities. According to the International Labour Organisation, after the establishment of the ASEAN Community, Vietnam’s employment rate will increase by 14% by 2025.

Women who are accountants, dentists, doctors, nurses or working in the tourism industry will be able to move freely among ASEAN member countries. And these professions are often popular with Vietnamese women.

Gender equality and women’s empowerment are one of three millennium goals that Vietnam achieved ahead of its 2015 deadline. These goals should create favourable conditions to support women in achieving more fulfilling careers.
