VTV.vn - Rice prices in the central region are often 20 - 30% lower than in other regions.

The key reason for this is the inferior quality of rice varieties found in the area. Enhancing rice quality, therefore, is becoming an urgent task for farmers in the central region.

This is a rice-sorting machine, which separates broken rice from intact grains. Thanks to this 91-thousand dollar machine, the Tuong Lien Rice Husking Workshop has raised product quality. In the central region of Vietnam, some rice processing workshops have recently invested thousands of US dollars in machinery. However, they all face a common difficulty.

Huynh Kim Tuong, a member of Tuong Lien Rice Husking Workshop, Phu Yen Province, said: "Certain types of rice varieties don’t suit the soil in many areas. Several kinds of rice are grown in just one hectare, so often quality can’t be ensured".

Paradoxically, while many farmers in the central regionstruggle to sell their harvest, rice processing workshops are often unwilling to purchase rice from the region because of its inferior quality. In fact, 80% of consumers in the centralregion prefer rice from the southern provinces.
