Vietnam and Venezuela established diplomatic ties in December 1989. Since then, the two countries have consolidated their friendship and collaboration through contacts and delegation exchanges at all levels.
A wide range of agreements have been signed between the two governments, including visa exemptions for diplomatic passport holders; and co-operation in science and technology, energy, education, culture, tourism, and agriculture.
The two sides have always supported each other in international forums and organisations. Venezuela backed Vietnam in its bids to join the World Trade Organisation and become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in 2008-2009 and a member of the UN Human Rights Council during the 2014 to 2016 tenure.
