VTV.vn - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung co-chaired the 7th meeting of the National Committee on Climate Change this morning.

The meeting identified key tasks for 2016, especially before the Paris Agreement is officially signed in New York on Thursday.

Speaking at the meeting, the PM emphasised impacts of climate change have been felt earlier than expected in Vietnam. Drought and salinity intrusion in the Mekong Delta as well as the severe drought in the southern central and Central Highlands regions are now directly affecting the economic growth. In the first 3 months of 2016, domestic GDP reached 6.2%, 0.3% lower than target.

The committee also discussed specific actions that Vietnam needed to take to sign the Paris Agreement on Thursday and a road map for Vietnam to complete the legal procedures of the deal in 2018.
