Obama visits to mark progress in relations

VTV.vn - The US Department of State and the National Security Council co-hosted a press conference on Thursday to discuss President Barack Obama’s official visit to Vietnam on May 23-25.

During the event, US Assistant Secretary for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Daniel Russel highlighted the significance of Obama’s visit to Vietnam. In his speech, Daniel Russel emphasized that the president’s visit signified substantial progress that the two countries have made in terms of relations. He stressed that a stronger bilateral relationship with Vietnam was an important factor which would benefits both nations on a whole range of issues.

Representative from the US National Security Council announced President Obama official schedule, including meetings with Vietnamese leaders.

Discussions will focus on measures to advance the US-Vietnam comprehensive partnership across a variety of areas such as trade, people to people, security, human rights, global and regional issues of mutual concerns.

President Barack Obama will be the third US president to pay an official visit following presidents Clinton and Bush.
