Many foreigners of African origin were arrested for failure to identify themselves.
Of 65 foreigners taken to the local police station, 21 failed to present valid identification. Most of those who were detained showed their IDs, but they were outdated and no longer accepted.
The detainees will be given administrative penalties and requested to leave the country in accordance with current immigration regulations. Organizations that wish to post their bail can come to the police station for further discussion.
After the inspection of identification papers, police will continue to consider other factors. The inspection was part of authorities’ efforts to stop foreigners from illegally staying in Ho Chi Minh City.
