HÀ NỘI — Work has begun on a state-of-the-art water recycling plant at the Tam Thăng Industrial Park (IP) in Tam Kỳ City, Quảng Nam Province.

The People’s Committee of the central province inaugurated the VNĐ230 billion (US$10 million) project on Thursday.

Hà Nội-based Renewable Technology Solutions (RTS) JSC is the project investor.

The water recycling plant, covering an area of 2.4 hectares, will have a designed capacity of 26,000 cubic metres of water per day.

Construction of the plant will be divided into two phases. The first phase, with a designed capacity of 13,000 cubic metres per day, is expected to be completed in 2017. The second phase, with the same capacity, is scheduled to open within the next two years.

The project will use advanced technology from the US, using UF and Ozone membranes to treat water from the Tam Thăng IP’s wastewater treatment plant.

The treated water will be supplied to factories in the IP, said Cao Minh Ngọc, director of the RTS company.

This modern technology is being applied in Việt Nam for the first time, according to Ngọc.

Speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony, Lê Văn Thanh, deputy chairman of Quảng Nam People’s Committee, said that the project, once completed, would contribute significantly to controlling water quality in the Tam Thăng IP.

It would save clean water in Tam Kỳ City and reduce production costs for investors, especially textile and garment enterprises, in the Tam Thăng IP, thus contributing to sustainable industrial development in Quảng Nam, he said.

In addition to meeting the demand for clean water for production and residents living in the area, the project would also raise awareness of the need to save clean water among IP workers as well as local residents, Thanh said.

He asked relevant agencies to actively support and create favourable conditions for the investor during the construction process, while urging the company to mobilise resources and put the plant into operation on schedule. — VNS
