HÀ NỘI — The Vietnam News Agency (VNA) opened a new television centre in Hà Nội yesterday.

The nine-storey circular structure, located at No 33 Lê Thánh Tông Street in downtown Hà Nội, is the new headquarters of VNEWS television channel, a key unit under VNA.

The VNĐ250 billion (US$10.8 million) building opened after four years of construction to mark the 74th anniversary of VNA, which falls on September 15.

It has state-of-the-art studios and technical departments, and features modern equipment that serves multimedia news reporting and production.

Speaking at the launch ceremony, VNA director general Nguyễn Đức Lợi said: “After nine years of operation, VNews has established itself as a specialised political news channel.

“Creating this building was a mission and an urgent requirement for VNA.”

He called on the centre to continue to improve itself as VNA’s news channel and as a national TV channel, and fulfilling its mission of reporting and promoting the Party’s and State’s political directions and guidance.

Also attending the ceremony, chairman of Hà Nội People’s Committee Nguyễn Đức Chung congratulated VNA on the new establishment, calling it “an architectural highlight at the heart of the city”.

He expressed his faith in the continuing development of VNA and its TV centre as a trustworthy news channel for citizens in the capital and across the country. — VNS
