HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam placed 16th in the world among countries with the highest number of internet users as the people online account for more than 60 per cent of its population, according to the Ministry of Information and Communications.
The figures released by the ministry showed that on average, a Vietnamese person spends seven hours per day on the internet. Notably, 60 million people use Facebook in the country, each for an average time of 3.55 hours per day.
Youtube was the second most used website with 45 million people visiting it per month. Vietnamese people spend 2.65 hours per day on Youtube. Next was Zalo with 40 million users per month and average time of 2.12 hours. Search engine Google still accounted for 95.27 per cent of the market share in November.
Despite many local companies such as Vinaseek, Socbay, Xalo and Monava striving to develop search tools to compete with Google, they had not been successful.
Another statistic showed Việt Nam in fourth position in terms of reading news. This proves Vietnamese people spent remarkable time online to serve different demands. — VNS

Khôi Lê, head of Facebook Client Solutions, will replace Lê Diệp Kiều Trang (known as Christy Le) as CEO of Facebook Việt Nam after her resignation by the end of this year.
Khôi has worked at Facebook’s Singapore branch for nearly two years with the initial position of head of Client Relationship.
Trang, country director for Facebook Việt Nam, announced on her Facebook page on December 5 that she would quit late this year to spend more time with her family.
On March 20, Trang was chosen as the director of Facebook in the country and was put in charge of Facebook’s business development in Việt Nam. She was assigned to work in Singapore.
Trang had previously won scholarships to study at Oxford University in England and Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the United States at a young age. She was the co-founder of Misfit Wearables and the CEO of Fossil Việt Nam before assuming her role at Facebook. — VNS
