Three Vietnamese newspapers fined for publishing improper information

The Authority of Broadcasting and Electronic Information has decided to fine three online newspapers for publishing improper and propaganda information related to a scandal involvingnbsp;Hồng Quang Minh or Minh Béo, a comedian.

HÀ NỘI – The Authority of Broadcasting and Electronic Information has decided to fine three online newspapers for publishing improper and propaganda information related to a scandal involving Hồng Quang Minh or Minh Béo, a comedian.

According to the decision signed by Nguyễn Thanh Lâm, director of the authority, kenh14.vn and soha.vn were fined VNĐ30 million (US$1,320) each for violations related to online press operations and providing information inconsistent with Việt Nam’s habits and customs.
 
The two online newspapers are owned by VCCorp JSC.
 
The authority also fined baomoi.com, an online news aggregator, VNĐ20 million ($880) for providing information inconsistent with Việt Nam’s habits and customs. The website belongs to EPI Technology JSC.
 
Minh Béo pleaded guilty in the United Sates to one felony count of sexual assault and an additional count of attempting to commit a lewd act on a child under the age of 14.
 
The comedian had travelled from Việt Nam to the US’s Orange Country for holding auditions. He was sentenced to 18 months in state prison and required to register as a lifetime sex offender. – VNS
