HÀ NỘI — Seven people suspected of involvement in a case of throwing explosives into a police station in HCM City have been arrested, Police said yesterday.

Criminal proceedings have been filed against four suspects on charges of anti-government actions while three others have been accused with illegally trading explosives, the police revealed at a press conference in HCM City today .

Initial investigations revealed that the acts related to overseas anti-government organisations and were attempting to incite local residents.

On June 20, an explosion occurred at the police station in ward 12 in HCM City’s Tân Bình District, injuring three people, including a female police officer.

The blast was strong enough to shatter glass window panes, strewing shards across the road. A motorbike was completely destroyed and a number of others parked at the police station were also damaged.

HCM City Police have coordinated with relevant forces from Đồng Nai, Đắk Nông and Đồng Nai Province in arresting the seven suspects.

About 10kg of TNT explosives and other materials were seized by the police.

The suspects told the police that overseas anti-government organisations had enticed them with money and high positions. Once joining these organisations, they were trained online through livestream, video calls and other forms of communication.

Under the direction of the overseas anti-government organisations, they conducted terrorist attacks on public agencies’ headquarters to cause public disorder, threatening national security.
