HÀ NỘI —One day after announcing the information affirming that all the 39 victims in the incident of the container truck, detected in Essex county, northeast of London, on October 23, are Vietnamese, the Ministry of Public Security late Friday evening officially announced their identities.
Earlier Deputy Prime Minister Trương Hoà Bình said Việt Nam would continue to take all necessary citizen protection measures to bring the victims home early after all 39 people found dead in the back of a lorry in the UK were confirmed as Vietnamese nationals.
At a meeting held on Friday, Deputy PM Bình said after co-ordination, examination and comparison of personal identities, the Ministry of Public Security of Việt Nam and UK law enforcement agencies on Thursday determined the 39 victims killed in a container discovered in Essex were all Vietnamese nationals.
The 39 citizens came from Hải Phòng, Hải Dương, Nghệ An, Hà Tĩnh, Quảng Bình and Thừa Thiên-Huế.
The meeting was held to guide ministries, agencies and localities on how to conduct citizen protective measures in line with Vietnamese, UK and international laws, he said.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that a working group, led by Deputy Minister Tô Anh Dũng, arrived in the UK on November 3 to work with UK agencies to identify the victims.
After confirming the identities, the ministry informed the victims’ families and sent its condolences to them. It has also worked with the People’s Committees in relevant localities to help families complete procedures to bring their loved ones home.

“The Vietnamese Government highly appreciates UK agencies for closely working with Vietnamese partners to handle the incident, and expresses its thanks to UK citizens and overseas Vietnamese people in the UK and all over the world for sharing and sending their condolences to the victims."
