HÀ NỘI — Nearly 30,000 cars were sold in October, marking an increase of 18 per cent compared with the same period last year, according to a report by the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers’ Association.

The sales included nearly 22,300 passenger cars, about 7,100 commercial cars and 515 special purpose vehicles.

The October figures marked a breakthrough in imported vehicles with the sale of 11,300 units, up 46 per cent over the previous month, while domestically assembled cars rose 2 per cent to reach 17,599 units.

The top 10 best selling cars of the month included budget cars like the Toyota Wigo, priced from VNĐ345 million to VNĐ405 million, a good level for many middle-income people in Việt Nam. The Ford Ranger pickup truck returned to the top 10 after months of absence, while familiar names like the KIA Cerato and Mazda CX-5 disappeared from the list.

The Toyota Vios topped the list with impressive sales of 2,477 units, up nearly 30 per cent over the same period last year. It was followed by the Hyundai Accent and the Toyota Wigo with 1,686 units and 1,529 units, respectively. — Khanh
