HCM CITY — HCM City’s drug crime investigation sub-department (PC47) has uncovered a drug-trafficking ring, arresting two suspects and seizing heroin and ecstasy from them.
The arrested were identified as Trương Minh Thanh, 41, of Bến Tre Province, and Trần Xuân Dũng, of HCM City’s Bình Thạnh District.
According to the police, on March 21, Thanh was caught red-handed with 10 plastic bags containing some 10kg of ecstasy pills.
The search of another suspect’s house led to the seizure of 1kg of ketamine, a medication mainly used for inducing anesthesia, 5,000 tablets of synthetic drugs and some VNĐ3 billion (US$133,000) in cash.
On Tuesday, the Hà Nội Customs Department reported that they in co-ordination with PC47 also detected a case where more than 20,000 tablets of ecstasy were illegally transported.
The police detained two suspects - Bồ Thị Kim Thoa, 27, and Vũ Ngọc Hoàng, 24, from Hưng Yên Province.
On March 21, customs department employees found that a suspicious shipment weighing 9,760g during the screening of shipments transported via express delivery.
Following an inspection of this shipment, the authorised force detected six boxes containing 20,418 tablets of ecstasy.
The sender’s name on the parcel was foreign, while the name of the recipient on the parcel was Bồ Thị Kim Thoa.
Thoa and Hoàng were arrested when they arrived at the customs department to receive the goods on March 23.
Investigation into the case is ongoing. — VNS
