HCM CITY— The People’s Committee of HCM City has directed the city Department of Planning and Architecture to give advice on new parking areas in the city.
The city will have five more underground parking areas located at 116 Nguyễn Du Street, Hoa Lư Stadium, Lê Văn Tám Park, Chi Lăng Park, and Tao Đàn Park, according to reports in Nhân Dân (People) newspaper.
In addition, the city plans to have more smart parking areas in the future.
A representative of the Tân Phát Automation Joint Stock Company, which builds smart parking lots, said with the new technologies, the city could have multi-storey parking lots of various kinds: vertical and horizontal rotary parking, puzzle parking, roll parking, and more.
These parking lots would be controlled and managed through a computer system, and have a low cost of investment with ease of use.
With only 40sq m, the company could build a vertical rotary system for six cars.
Trần Quang Lâm, deputy director of city’s Transport department, said the department had proposed to the city’s People’s Committee to complete related administrative procedures as well as compensation and clearance processes.
In addition, the department has assigned districts’ units to review and suggest suitable locations to build parking lots.
The city has 225 hectares of parking areas at 35 locations.
These parking areas are divided into seven types, including technical bus station, bus station, inter-provincial bus station, car parks, parking area for taxis, truck stations and cargo wharves.
Compared to the planned target, this has only met 20 per cent of the plan. —VNS
