ĐÀ NNG — A Filipino crew member, who suffered a heart attack on his ship while sailing off the central city of Đà Nng, was saved on Wednesday by the search and rescue centre.

At 1:27pm on February 28, the captain of the Greek ship Leonidas placed an emergency call to Vit Nam’s search and rescue centre, asking for medical assistance for crew member Guerrero Rosmeni Nedia, 48, who had a heart attack.

The ship’s location was 45 nautical miles away from Tri Tôn (Triton) island of Trường Sa (Spratly) archipelago, as it was en route from Singapore to China.

In response to the call, Vit Nam’s rescue centre immediately deployed its vessel SAR412 with a team of doctors on board.

After hours of navigating the sea at night, SAR412 successfully approached Leonidas. The doctors managed to keep Nedia’s condition stable before loading him on SAR412 and transporting him to the mainland for further care.

The rescue vessel reached Đà Nng Port at 11:36pm the same day, after which Nedia was admitted to Hoàn M Hospital. — Khanh
