HÒA BÌNH — A man caught trafficking more than 38 kilos of heroin has been sentenced to death.
Hòa Bình Province People’s Court on Thursday ordered the execution of 36-year-old Giàng A Lăng from the mountainous commune of Lóng Luông in Vân Hồ District.
The court heard how from February 2010 to April 2012, Lăng and his accomplices had trafficked 108 packages of heroin, with total weight of about 38.019kg.
On April 21, 2012, he fled while police was inspecting the car that Lăng and his accomplices used to bring drugs into Thái Nguyên Province and Hà Nội.
The Investigation Agency, Ministry of Public Security issued a nationwide arrest warrant against Lăng who, in June last year, handed himself over to the authorities.
After years of hiding, Lăng surrendered to authorities on June 24, 2019.
Four years ago, six men who were part of the trafficking ring were sentenced to death, seven were jailed for life and others sentenced to more than 200 years behind bars.
