-- Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc will lead a high-ranking delegation today (June 4) to Tokyo, Japan on an official visit to the East Asian nation before attending the Future of Asia Conference 2017.

 

-- Police in the northern province of Bac Ninh confirmed on Saturday they had arrested two suspects who had robbed a phone outlet in Tien Du District by holding staff members at gunpoint late last month.

-- Twenty-eight tourists from Myanmar were admitted to a hospital in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong on Saturday for treatment for alleged food poisoning after they had dined at two restaurants in Da Lat.

-- The Hanoi administration has proposed a motorbike ban in its inner districts by 2030 in a draft resolution on beefing up the management of means of transport to curb congestion and pollution in the 2017-2020 period, with a vision toward 2030.

 

-- On Saturday, more than 900 kilograms of pork with VietGAP (Good Agricultural Practices) certification sold out for VND35,000 (US$1.5) per kg within less than three hours at an outlet in Ho Chi Minh City.

-- The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport has proposed the municipal People’s Committee not allow Uber Vietnam, a ride-hailing service that offers low fares, expensive vehicles and gives passengers the feeling of riding in their own lavish cars, to pilot an e-contract in 2017 to keep the number of trial-run e-contracted vehicles in check.

 

-- On Saturday, 500 students from universities across Vietnam created a word formation indicative of their resolve to safeguard the country’s sovereignty and launch start-ups from the sea on a beach on Phu Quy Island, an emerging tourist attraction in the south-central province of Binh Thuan, as part of a program initiated by the Vietnamese Student Association.

 

-- Young Vietnamese chess player Pham Tran Gia Phuc on Saturday won a gold medal in the Under-8 category of the 1st World Cadets Blitz Chess Championship 2017, which is taking place in Belarus from Friday to Sunday and attracts 649 elite players from 24 countries and territories.

-- The Vietnam Football Federation has appointed Spanish coach Miguel Rodrigo to lead the Vietnamese national futsal team.
