KHÁNH HÒA – A woman received burns to her face and limbs on Tuesday when a helium tank blew apart, throwing her four metres in Trần Phú Street near Nha Trang City in central Khánh Hòa province, dantri.com.vn online newspaper reported.
A witness said the explosion happened at about 6am as students gathered at schools for new-year ceremonies. The victim was pumping helium into a balloon when the gas tank suddenly blew up.
The victim was Đặng Thị Hoa, a 49-year-old balloon vendor, who for 22 years, has left her home in Vĩnh Hiệp Commune to sell balloons at school gates or parks.
She was later taken to Khánh Hòa General Hospital.
Nha Trang City police said initial investigation revealed the victim transported 12 helium tanks on her old motorbike.
The cause of the explosion is being investigated by the city police. — VNS
