The request was made by Politburo member and Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Mass Mobilisation Truong Thi Mai during the 4th National Congress of the Vietnam Young Physicians Association (VYPA), term 2020-2025, which took place in Hanoi on December 6.
A report at the congress showed that in the past term, the organisation and operation of the VYPA have been promoted effectively. By the end of October 2020, the association has more than 82,000 members, 31 affiliates and 32 provincial clubs, as well as other 600 clubs in hospitals. In the 2015-2020 period, the VYPA at all levels have provided free medical examination and medicine to over 3 million people, in addition to free eye surgeries for 3,000 elderly people and cancer screening for more than 30,000 people.
Hailing the rapid development of the nation’s medical sector with outstanding achievements over recent years, Politburo member Mai affirmed that it is attributable in part to the young physicians.
She noted that amid both opportunities and challenges interwoven into current socio-economic development and the COVID-19 epidemic, young physicians should constantly practice, improve their medical ethics, quickly access scientific and technical advances to better serve the public healthcare.
Mai also suggested the association continue to accompany, encourage and motivate young physicians to make efforts in improving their professional capacity, ethics and actively participating in the movements that the congress has defined.

The congress also passed a resolution calling on all its young members both at home and abroad to actively participate in social activities to serve the nation’s development and improvement of people's health. With the action slogan of "Young physicians volunteering for a healthy Vietnam", in the coming term, the association will focus on consolidating its organisation and expanding its activities, while protecting the legitimate rights and interests of young physicians during their public healthcare mission.
On the occasion, the VYPA also honoured collectives and individuals with outstanding achievements in the association’s building work during 2015-2020, as well as commending 10 outstanding young Vietnamese physicians in 2020.
