The World blood donor day is celebrated every year on June 14th. The aim is to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products for transfusion, as per the World Health Organization (WHO). In Vietnam, activities in response to this event also aim to recognize and honor blood donors and blood donation encouragement efforts.
Last year, more than 1.3 million blood units were donated nationwide. As such, the National Institute of Hematology - Blood Transfusion has provided blood to nearly 200 medical facilities in 32 localities.
The Institute has for the first regulated the supply of nearly 20 thousand blood units to the South and Central regions. The event is an opportunity to contribute to raising community awareness about the role of regular blood donation, so that everyone has the opportunity to access blood transfusion services when they need it.
