This is according to an aviation traffic forecast for 2017-2040 published by the Airport Council International.
By 2022, air traffic from emerging economies will surpass developed economies. Air traffic from emerging economies is forecasted to account for 61.6% of world air traffic in 2040. Also in 2040, domestic air traffic is expected to exceed international figures. China is expected to have the largest air passenger market in the world by 2040, followed by the United States and India.
