The 24-year-old suspect is a Vietnamese national and has the Facebook account name Vi Tran. She was arrested in Petersham District – 6 kilometers southwest of Sydney’s central business district.
The woman has been detained and will go on trial on February 3rd facing charges of illegal financial gain through deception.
On January 7th, New South Wales police conducted an investigation after receiving information from overseas Vietnamese students in Sydney and Melbourne, claiming they had been tricked into buying fake tickets for Vietnam Airlines through the suspected Facebook account.
About 240 students have been scammed, with total losses of over 250,000 USD.
