In celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Capital’s Liberation (October 10, 1954 – October 10, 2024), Vietnam Television is organizing the Hanoi Documentary Week on the digital platform VTVGo, bringing new and engaging experiences to viewers. The week includes 20 works from the 1980s, covering a wide range of topics such as history, archaeology, Hanoi’s temples, and police investigations.
Here is the list of the 20 documentaries shown on VTVGo during Hanoi Documentary Week:
Hanoi’s Four Seasons (4 episodes): Based on Hanoi’s natural four seasons, the series follows the city's streets, combiningits cultural and natural features.
Hanoi’s Craft Streets (6 episodes): Exploring streets with the prefix "Hang" , reflecting the spirit of different rural areas that formed the Kẻ Chợ, Thăng Long, and later, Hanoi’s 36 streets. The series tells stories of people associated with Hanoi’s historical and social changes.
Tran Quoc Pagoda: Delving into the history, culture, and people associated with one of Thang Long’s four sacred temples.
Nam Giao Altar (2 episodes): A scientific film on the Nam Giao Altar, a spiritual and symbolic relic of the feudal era in Hanoi, combining history, archaeology, and culture.
Pre-Thang Long Relics (2 episodes): A scientific exploration of sites and discoveries that laid the foundations for Thang Long’s development in the 11th century.
The Soul of Hanoi (4 episodes): Offers different perspectives on modern, dynamic Hanoi through the eyes of a foreign scholar.
In Harmony with the Capital (6 episodes): Presents the achievements of Hanoi’s police force from 1946 to the 2000s, highlighting notable criminal cases.
Where Peace Begins: Provides a fresh perspective on the sacred values of peace and explains why Hanoi is considered the starting point for peace.
Uncle Ho with Hanoi: recounts events and stories of President Ho Chi Minh’s time in Hanoi, where he lived and worked the longest after his return to the country.
Dr. Tran Duy Hung - A Hanoi Personality: The film uses events and contributions of Dr. Tran Duy Hung, Hanoi’s mayor during the country's early days, to illustrate a specific historical period and the contributions of Hanoi’s people.
Our House (3 episodes): Depicts changes in Hanoi's architecture over time, reflecting different historical stages and generations.
Hanoi Old Quarter: A nostalgic journey through the city's thousand-year-old history and culture, which now faces daily transformations.
Hanoi’s Suburbs: Explores Hanoi's suburban areas, home to traditional crafts that have existed for centuries and form a unique cultural identity.
The City by the Red River: Traces Hanoi’s formation and development over time, highlighting the river's increasing importance.
Hanoi in Whose Eyes: Showcases Hanoi’s essence and talents, capturing the city’s pride and concerns about change and preservation.
Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam: Focuses on Vietnam’s tradition of learning and respect for teachers, set against different dynasties, with figures like Chu Van An and Nguyen Trai.
When the Mist Clears: Portrays the daily life around Hoan Kiem Lake before and during the clearing of the fog —simple, peaceful, yet profound.
My Hanoi (Mon Hanoi): A documentary by former French Ambassador Jean-Noel Poirier, exploring aspects such as culture, cuisine, and traffic, while highlighting Hanoi's citizens as the city's "soul."
Hanoi’s Belief (3 episodes): Looks back at Hanoi's journey from wartime to becoming a symbol of modernity.
Born in 1972: Set during the American bombing, this film focuses on a generation of talented artists who continue to explore and create works that enrich Hanoi’s cultural heritage.
Hanoi Documentary Week will occur from October 4 to October 10, 2024. All films will be available on the VTVGo digital platform. Offline screenings will also be held from October 4 to 6 at Studio S7 of Vietnam Television.
