VTV.vn - The website showcases portraits by artist Dang Ai Viet during her journey across Vietnam since 2010 and provides stories behind them.

A website featuring the portraits and stories of more than 3,000 Heroic Vietnamese Mothers was officially launched on April 11 at the Southern Women's Museum in Ho Chi Minh City, in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification (April 30, 1975 – 2025).

The website has been developed by the Municipal Geographic Information System Application Centre since January 2020, showcasing portraits by artist Dang Ai Viet during her journey across Vietnam since 2010. The platform also provides stories behind the portraits.

Viet shared that digitising these portraits is her way of preserving these sacred memories beyond the limitations of paper-based materials. She considers the project a gift to younger generations, ensuring they remember the contributions made by these women for national independence and freedom.

Born in 1948, the artist revealed that she first conceived the idea of painting Heroic Vietnamese Mothers in 1995, with the project only coming to reality 16 years later.

Established under a policy introduced in 1994, the honorary title is awarded, often posthumously, to women who have made great sacrifices for national liberation, independence, construction, defence, and international obligations.

Over the years, in addition to the benefits provided by the Party and State, Vietnamese society has continued to express its gratitude to these honoured women through meaningful initiatives, including gratitude funds, housing support, savings accounts, and long-term care programmes.
