VTV Special Documentary: Dien Bien Phu As Seen from France is a new perspective on the Dien Bien Phu campaign through valuable documents, drawn from the vast amount of documents stored in the French Ministry of Defense and the French National Assembly.
Much declassified information that few people have little or no access to. The film is a production of Vietnam Television and will be broadcast on May 7, 2024 at 20:05 on VTV1 and VTV4 channels.
Seventy years later, Dien Bien Phu is still a topic that attracts the attention of many journalists and historians. With a duration of almost 50 minutes, the documentary Dien Bien Phu As Seen from France will mention the causes and mistakes that led to the defeat of the French army in the Battle of Dien Bien Phu, through the analysis of top secret documents of the French army, the comments of French generals, those who fought in the battle, giving explanations as to why France, despite its military power, still failed at Dien Bien Phu.
It is also a film with a large participation of French researchers, many experts, historians and people who are passionate about studying Dien Bien Phu in France. There are also historical witnesses who are French and Vietnamese veterans.
Particularly noteworthy is the valuable information extracted from the French Army's daily briefing documents before, during, and after the Dien Bien Phu campaign, preserved at the National Defense Archives Center and the French National Assembly, which have been declassified since 2015, as well as some new documents released since 2023.
