VTV.vn - The documentary Eight Centuries Longing the Homeland will be broadcast in VTV Special time slot of December and tell the story of the Ly clan in Korea.

The Ly clan is a branch of the Lee family in Korea, both North and South. It was founded by the Vietnamese prince Ly Long Tuong or Lee Young-sang in Korean who escaped a court crisis and immigrated to Korea eight centuries ago. His clan and contributed significantly to their second homeland by defeating foreign invaders. Throughout eight hundred years, Lee Young-sang’s descendants never forgot their country of origin and always sought ways to return to Vietnam.

To illustrate more about the peculiar story of this clan, the Documentary and Report Department sent a film crew to South Korea to produce a documentary series. It consists of three episodes, each with a duration of 45 minutes.

The first episode tells the strong desire of Lee Young-sang’s descendants to find back their origins, through the story of Lee Chang-kun (Ly Xuong Can), who is also the protagonist. In the documentary, Lee Chang-kun introduced his Vietnamese ancestor Lee Young-sang.

In the second episode, the descendants, regardless of their social status and economic conditions, stated their wish to return to Vietnam.

The third episode tells about the homecoming. Lee Chang-kun returned to Vietnam and disseminate his clan story among the Vietnamese media. He organized homecoming tours to other members of the clan and poured money into a manufacturing project.

The film crew met with the clan elders in South Korea who are too old and too weak for homecoming but wished their offspring to return to Vietnam and burn incense on their behalf to offer to the ancestors at Do temple in Bac Ninh province.

The documentary series will be broadcast on VTV1 channel at 20:10, starting from December 16.
