This is the annual Asiavision award of ABU for TV channels which make outstanding contributions to the development of the Union.
Vietnam Television received the "Best Breaking News" award for reporting on the meeting between US President Donald Trump and Korean leader Kim Jong-un in Hanoi last February.
According to Javad Mottaghi, ABU Secretary-General, Vietnam Television was chosen because of it excellent coverage of the event of international interest. Through Asiavision information exchange system of ABU, the historical meeting between the US and North Korean leaders was broadcast by 272 ABU members in 76 countries.
In addition, Vietnam Television was also nominated in 2 other categories: Best Picture Award and Best Story Award.
