Summer Olympic Games – one of the biggest international multi-sports event, taking place every 4 years – is about to take place from July 23 to August 8, 2021 in Tokyo, Japan. This year, Vietnam participates in the event with 18 athletes competing in 11 competitions.
The goal of the Vietnam Sports Delegation at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics is to strive for a medal. Accordingly, VTV will go hand in hand with the progress of Vietnamese Sports at this Summer Olympics by owning the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games media rights, becoming the official broadcaster of the tournament in the territory of Vietnam.
Specifically, Vietnam Television (VTV) is licensed for exclusive media right on Over the Air Televison for all programs related to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and non- exclusive media rights on simulcast VTV channels on all platforms (cable, IPTV, satellites, internet and mobile) in the territory of Vietnam.
The Opening Ceremony of Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games will be live telecast from 17:30 to 21:45 July 23th, 2020 on VTV5HD, VTV6HD and VTV9HD. The time slot from 07:00 to 21:00 on these channels shall be allocated for the coverage of all sport competitions, starting from July 23th to August 8th.
Men/Women football will be live broadcast on VTV5, VTV5 Southwest, VTV6 and VTV9 from August 5th to August 20th.

Exciting Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games programs on VTV
With the aim of creating an exciting summer with Tokyo 2020 Olympics Games, Vietnam Television will produce a number of sideline programs.
Transmission schedule of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games sideline programs on the VTV channels:
- “Khoảnh khắc Olympic” (Trans: Olympic Moments) with the duration of 5 mins, is scheduled to air at 9:30pm (Monday to Friday) and 9:10pm (Saturday and Sunday) on VTV3 from July 21 to August on VTV3 and re-broadcasted on channel VTV9.
- The 10-minutes news program named “Nhật ký Olympic Tokyo 2020” ( Trans: Tokyo 2020 Olympic Diary) – (From Monday to Friday) - and another 15 minutes version of it (On Saturday and Sunday) will be broadcasted live at 5:55 pm from July 21 to August 9 on VTV3, replayed on channel VTV9.
- A brand new sideline program is “Cận cảnh Olympic” (Trans: The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games Close-up) which will be on air at 11:30 pm from July 23 to August 9, 2021 on channel VTV3 and replayed on VTV9.
In addition, with the aim of conveying to audience one of the most special and memorable event in the history of the Olympic Games, VTV will continously update news and activities about The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games via Sport News Programs such as “Nhịp đập Thể thao” (Trans: Sports Beats); VTV Sports News; “360 độ Thể thao” (Trans: 360 Degrees of Sports), etc.
