Hanoi started quarantining all people returning from pandemic-hit areas in dedicated facilities from July 22 as an effort to control the COVID-19 pandemic, according to Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Chu Ngoc Anh’s latest dispatch.

The dispatch noted that in the past few days, there were still people who failed to follow pandemic prevention and control measures and large gatherings occurred in some places. Every day, thousands of people from other localities return to the city, carrying the risk of infection in the community.

The city leader asked local authorities to strengthen surveillance in the community, and closely manage and supervise those returning from other provinces and cities to minimize the risk of transmission from pandemic-hit areas.

The Centers for Disease Control, medical examination and treatment facilities, and health centers of districts and towns in the city were urged to quickly take samples for testing for all cases with symptoms such as cough, fever and breathing shortness.

Hanoi's Department of Health should plan to ensure sufficient quarantine sites for 30,000 and 50,000 people, with priority given to outlying districts.

Meanwhile, localities continue to welcome citizens back from Ho Chi Minh City and southern provinces who will be put under concentrated quarantine upon arrival. Bamboo Airways has announced to provide free flights to serve passengers wishing to return home.
