On December 1, the first round of voting for the VTV Impression Award – VTV Awards 2024 officially opened at 12:00 PM. This year, the award includes eight categories, with nominees in each category being works and programs that have made a distinct impression over the past year.
The Image of the Year category in 2024 features a competition among 10 images, including Typhoon Yagi on the frontline island, rescue workers rescuing villagers from the Nu village buried by landslides after Typhoon Yagi , a soldier giving a whistle to a disabled child during a parade, the difficult journey to school for students in landslide-prone areas, the image of a Dien Bien’s child in the rain, the image of the national flag arranged by nearly 10,000 people in Ngo Mon Square in Hue, the elderly in a literacy class, the hero who climbed ladders and broke down walls to save people in the Trung Kinh fire, the "heroes" who saved people on the Phu My Bridge, and the Vietnamese spirit during storms and floods.
After the first voting week, from December 1 to December 8, the image of a Dien Bien child in the rain currently leads in votes. Specifically, the image received 1,153 SMS votes and 21,014 views on the VTVGo platform, giving it a total score of 44,074 points.
The image of the Dien Bien’s child in the rain is leading in the first voting week.
The Dien Bien Phu Victory Monument, located on Hill D1 at the Dien Bien Phu Battlefield National Special Relic Site, has long been a symbol closely associated with this region. Among the most prominent images is that of a Thai ethnic child, carrying a message of tradition and pride for the younger generation of the ethnic groups in the northwest.
This monument not only represents history but is also a familiar image for locals whenever Dien Bien is mentioned, alongside the iconic image of three soldiers waving the flag on top of the De Castrich bunker, a timeless symbol of the Dien Bien Phu Victory. In early 2024, this image was stylized to become the symbol of the 2024 Dien Bien National Tourism Year and the tourism branding logo of the province.
Recently, during the 70th Anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory on May 7, the monument was vividly recreated in a special performance by the Military Ceremonial Unit. The image of "Dien Bien’s Child" – created by artist Hoang Giang Huy – made a deep impression and was widely shared by the community. Inspired by the Dien Bien Phu Victory Monument on Hill D, this image became the highlight in the artistic performance of "Dien Bien's Epic Song". Although it appeared for just 15 seconds, the moment captured widespread attention and quickly went viral on social media platforms.
